"This type of residential is a very effective tool in engaging young people to work as a team. Team-work is the key to success on the voyage because without it the boat would not move and the young people would not be able eat or keep their environment clean.  Sailing forces the young people to work together and take responsibility for their own action". Sail Training

LIfe changing adventures

There are many bursary schemes providing support for Sail Training voyages, ensuring that this valuable experience is available to everyone.  All UK Sail Training operators are 'not-for-profit' organisations and most operate their own bursary scheme.  These schemes will vary and details and up-to-date information should be obtained by contacting the organisation you are interested in.  A full list of members is available by selecting ASTO and Member Organisations from the drop-down menu.

Additionally, funding for Sail Training voyages may be available from other sources.  As such funding becomes available details will be published here once the source has been verified.  Again, it is advisable to contact these organisations directly for accurate information.

It may also be worth contacting your local Rotary Club, as Rotary International have worked closely with Sail Training International.  Additionally, many sailing and yacht clubs have cadet or grant schemes to assist young people to go sailing, and in some cases, Sail Training will qualify for these grants.
